A Brief History of St. Don Bosco College

St. Don Bosco College had a very humble beginning Mr. R.N.Trivedi, the then District Magistrate of Lakhimpur, requested Rt. Rev. Dr. Cecil de Sa. Then Bishop of Lucknow to open a good school like that of St. Francis College, Lucknow pattern so that the people of Lakhimpur could benefit for the future of their children, Bishop Cecil must have requested late Fr.Gerard Perazzini to look for pieace of land Lakhimpur Fr.Gerare left no stone unturned to fulfill the Bishop's whish and met the Raja of Oel's son and negotiated for the pieace of land beside the main road leading to Keri town. Soon the deal was strunk and nearly six acres of land was bought.

Bishop Cecil entrusted the onerous task of opening the school to ever smiling, ever green, and ever ready Rcv. Fr. Charles Fernandes who was already the principal of St. Jon's College Gola, Fr. Charles Energentic, enthusiastic as he was, then came to Lakhimpur on his motorcycle in the morning and returned to Gola in the evening daily bearing the scorching heat of summer house in Shikshak Avas Grih in the mission compound on kheri road, Lakhimpur. During this period Fr. Charles was ably assisted by enthusiastic and enterprising Sr. Tracila, F.C.C. who commuted daily from Gola for the spade work needed in this direction.

On 1st of July 1980 Fr. Gratian Vas took over the charge as the second Principal, It was a hard task to keep a new school going and Fr. Gratian Vas managed the school with great ability. Moreover, he had to fight tooth and nail to save the bought land from the clutches of the Avas Vikas, Lakhimpur.

In the beginning the students were accommodated in Nursery and K. G. classes and were taught by Mrs.Priyamvada Sharma, Mrs. S. Pandey, Mrs. Nirmal Chaudhary and Mrs. Chitra Shukla.

On 1st of April 1981 when school was still in the its infancy, Rev.Fr.Lawrence Pinto took Over as Principal together with Rev. Fr. Bonaventure Menezes as Vice Principal. Then the Head Mistress Sr. Jeremy F.F.F. gave share of valuable support. Rcv.Fr. Louis Mendonca on 1st Of july 1982 took the charge as a Principal. Fr. Louis has an impressive personality and a very good nature. He Contributed much for the welfare of the school. He is an active personality and took personal interest and made the school march forward with great success.

In the beginning there was no play ground for the school, as the Awas Vikas had taken is as their possession, but when on 22nd 1987 Rev. Fr. Alphonsus Lobo took over the charge as the Principal, He with his fuileless ways and hard efforts with the help of the then Housing Secretary managed to get back the land. Then with the help of the Superintendent of Police Dr. Kashmira Singh, a boundary wall was built around Don Bosco School. In the year 1989 Rev. Fr. Alphonsus Lobo crossed the greast hurdle when he succeeded in securinh, provisional affiliation from the C.B.S.E. New Delhi to Don Bosco School. The first batch X consisting of 33 students came out with 100% result, most of them securing First class. Sr. Tracila, as a Headmistress, like an expert navigator directed the staff and the students to achieve the cherished goal of value based education, a role, which she fulfilled with complete devotion and sincerity.
