A Brief History Of St.Don Bosco College

St. Don Bosco College had a very humble beginning Mr. R.N.Trivedi, the then District Magistrate of Lakhimpur, requested Rt.Rev.Dr.Cecil de Sa. Then Bishop of Lucknow to open a good school like that of St.Francis College, Lucknow pattern so that the people of Lakhimpur could benefit for the future of their children, Bishop Cecil must have requested late Fr.Gerard Perazzini to look for pieace of land Lakhimpur Fr.Gerare left no stone unturned to fulfill the Bishop's whish and met the Raja of Oel's son and negotiated for the pieace of land beside the main road leading to Keri town. Soon the deal was strunk and nearly six acres of land was bought.

St.Don Bosco

Bishop Cecil entrusted the onerous task of opening the school to ever smiling, ever green, and ever ready Rcv.Fr.Charles Fernandes who was already the principal of St. Jon's College Gola, Fr.Charles Energentic, enthusiastic as he was, then came to Lakhimpur on his motorcycle in the morning and returned to Gola in the evening daily bearing the scorching heat of summer house in Shikshak Avas Grih in the mission compound on kheri road, Lakhimpur. During this period Fr.Charles was ably assisted by enthusiastic and enterprising Sr.Tracila, F.C.C. who commuted daily from Gola for the spade work needed in this direction.

On 1st of July 1980 Fr. Gratian Vas took over the charge as the second Principal, It was a hard task to keep a new school going and Fr.Gratian Vas managed the school with great ability. Moreover, he had to fight tooth and nail to save the bought land from the clutches of the Avas Vikas, Lakhimpur.

In the beginning the students were accommodated in Nursery and K.G. classes and were taught by Mrs.Priyamvada Sharma, Mrs.S.Pandey, Mrs.Nirmal Chaudhary and Mrs.Chitra Shukla.

On 1st of April 1981 when school was still in the its infancy, Rev.Fr.Lawrence Pinto took Over as Principal together with Rev.Fr.Bonaventure Menezes as Vice Principal. Then the Head Mistress Sr.Jeremy F.F.F. gave share of valuable support. Rcv.Fr. Louis Mendonca on 1st Of july 1982 took the charge as a Principal. Fr.Louis has an impressive personality and a very good nature. He Contributed much for the welfare of the school. He is an active personality and took personal interest and made the school march forward with great success.

In the beginning there was no play ground for the school, as the Awas Vikas had taken is as their possession, .

But when on 22nd 1987 Rev.Fr.Alphonsus Lobo took over the charge as the Principal, He with his fuileless ways and hard efforts with the help of the then Housing Secretary managed to get back the land. Then with the help of the Superintendent of Police Dr.Kashmira Singh, a boundary wall was built around Don Bosco School. In the year 1989 Rev.Fr.Alphonsus Lobo crossed the greast hurdle when he succeeded in securinh, provisional affiliation from the C.B.S.E. New Delhi to Don Bosco School. The first batch X consisting of 33 students came out with 100% result, most of them securing First class. Sr. Tracila, as a Headmistress, like an expert navigator directed the staff and the students to achieve the cherished goal of value based education, a role, which she fulfilled with complete devotion and sincerity.

At once the efforts began to upgrade 10+2 level and it received this status in the year 1990 and the first batch of class XII, in the year 1992, consisting of 25 students appeared for the board examination. This time too we received remarkable success. There were no laboratories and library till the year 1988. But under the able administration of Rev.Fr.Alphonus Lobo, a man not to be deterred by odds, he with absolute confidence erected the labs and the library and thus the status of studies improved considerably.

A wonderful library reminds us of Late Rev.Fr.Camillus D'Souzaa, who was with us nearly about nine years. A prolific reader totally devoted to the cause of education. In his tenure as our Vice Principal, His valuable books, his sole treasures helped to enrich our library. He had dedicated himself for the betterment and all round development of the students.

The year 1997 reminds us of a most benevolent saint like personality Rev.Fr.Sebastian Mathais who came to Don Bosco as Principal and Rev.Fr.Denis Naresh Lobo as Vice Principal together with Sr. Therese. F.C.C. as Headmistress. She was never afraid of hard work and always ready to help for any good cause of the school and the students.

On 23rd of May 1999 Rcv.Fr.Denis Naresh Loho took the charge as Principal and Rev.Fr.Robert D'souza as the Vice Principal. Then Rev.Fr.Andrew D'Chunha was the Manager: after him Rev.Fr.Louis Mendonca was appointed the Manager of the college.

Satisfying development came during this year. The extension of the school building was brought about. The school auditorium was thus built and His Excellency Rt.Rev.Dr.Albert D'Souza blessed the beautiful building in the presence of a good gathering.

On 2nd April 2002 Rev.Fr.Fr.Elias Rodrigues took the charge as principal and after a year Rev.Fr.Prakash Soreng was appointed as Vice Principal. Today under the able and efficient guidance of Rev.Fr.Elias Rodrigus the high ideal are being competently looked after. His straight forward nature and deep devotion together with strict discipline commands instant respect.

The enthusiasm and inexhaustible energy of the present Headmistress Sr.Elsy John F.C.C must be admired by everyone. It is a pleasure to work with her. Nor Rev.Fr.Joseph Peter Rpdrigues our new Manager has Joined the college this year. He has won innumerable hearts due to his saintly personality and soft way of talking. But as a strict disciplinarian he wants his students to be the best. With an efficient and working staff St. Don Bosco College is reaching new heights day by day.

Today there are above 3000 students studying in St. Don Bosco College who are being imparted modern value based education, which aims at all round development of personality of the individual student.

I, on behave of St. Don Bosco College sincerely thanks you dear parents. Who are closely associated with the growth of the College. Each one of you is important and indispensable to reach the College to the heights and to realize the College motto 'Love and Service'. We hope this exciting saga continues and may St. Don Bosco scale the pinnacles of glory and spread the light knowledge.

In 1999 keeping our motto "Love & Service" in mind Fr. Denis Naresh Lobo started Hindi Medium School for poor children. This step taken but him gave an opportunity to the children of weaker class of our society to get a value based education. Today more than 230 Students are gaining education unto class V in a healthy atmosphere of sincerity, honesty and truthfulness.
